New Server!

Hi Everyone.

We are getting ready to cut over to the new server hardware in a few minutes.

The whole transition should take about 15 minutes.

If you see any problems, please report them

1. in the aeolus chat, or if you can’t get there

2. on the forums, or if you can’t get there

3. by emailing

Thank you!   We will be back shortly…

Help us track down a bug

IceBean is working on finding and fixing the following bug:

The Seraphim ACU sometimes explodes when you unload it from a transport. It is thought to be something to do with one of these issues:

1. The unit being turned the wrong way when it is loaded or something.

2. When the ACU is firing at something at the same time it’s picked up.

If you have seen this happen in your games and have a replay, please let us know on this forum thread and include the replay ID # :

Thank you!

Poll to remove some maps from the ladder.

Hi everyone.   Over the last week one subject that keeps coming up is problems with the current ladder.  In the long run we need to improve the client to handle ladder games and preferences better.  In the short run, I think many people feel some problematic maps should be removed or fixed.  I’ve put a poll up on the forum so you can vote on removing them or not.  The poll is at:

Quick Update

Hi everyone, I wanted to update you on a few things.

First, I wanted to let you know that the donation button on the home page is still going to Ze_Pilot so those of you who would like to thank him for his years of dedicated service to the community can do so before he moves on.   So please, if you appreciate all the hard work Ze_Pilot did, take this chance to donate to him!

Ze_Pilot is continuing to help manage FAF as we transition to a new server and leadership.  The transition will be finished by November 1st.

We are not looking for donations for myself, the new FAF server,  or the new FAF team right now.  I am fine funding all these operations for the next few months.  Towards the end of the year we will put up a new donation button.

Second, we are making good progress on setting up the new, faster server for FAF.

The current server runs on a dual-core i3-2130 CPU @ 3.4ghz with 8GB RAM in France.   It is having some problems, including needing more RAM and using all the CPU during brief spikes.

The new server runs on a quad-core Xeon E3-1270v3 CPU @ 3.5ghz with 16GB RAM at Softlayer in Amsterdam.  In short it is 2x+ faster and has twice the RAM as the current server.

Ultimately we will have two new severs, a STABLE server and a BETA server.   The BETA server is where we will test out new versions of the FAF client and FAF server software.  But we’ll talk more about that in the future.

Have fun!

Forward Progress

Hi everyone, I just wanted to give you a quick update on the progress of the hand-off between myself and Ze_Pilot.

As discussed in the prior new post, after three years of very hard work for us all, Ze_Pilot is retiring and I am taking over to lead FAF into a new era of community leadership.

During my “first week on the job” I was able to speak with many of you via chat and forums.  I enjoyed doing so.

Right now my priorities are to:

1) Finish getting all servers/service and passwords moved over.  With Ze_Pilots help we have pretty much all of this done, except the transfer of domain name from his registrar to mine.  This just takes some registrar bureaucracy.

2. Getting a new server or servers set up as a home for  This will likely be at Softlayer in Amsterdam, and at least two servers:  One for mysql, one for everything else  (Net result: should be faster)

3. Continue listening, learning and getting involved as we evolve to community leadership.

4. Get the all the source code into GPLv3 license for all the community to use openly

5. Start working on some ideas and guidelines for a team of community leaders.  What I have half-jokingly been calling the “Council of Setons”

If you have any questions at all please feel free to contact me via FAF chat or via PM on the forums.  I’m visionik both places.

Thank you,
