Today we release a new balance patch, patch 3714. Patchnotes can be found here: https://content.faforever.com/patchnotes/3714.html
This patch aims to improve the options of Aeon specifically as they have become one of the least played factions. The Czar will now have a personal shield to protect it, and much stronger AA weapons. The Harbinger also gets a quite substantial buff and the Specter gets a new weapon.
There are many changes to the other factions as well, especially at the Tech 2 land and Tech 3 land stages. Open the patchnotes to read through all the changes and see small explanations for each of the changes.
A big thanks goes to the other members of the balance team and all the players who gave suggestions and feedback on the forums and elsewhere on FAF.
Feedback on the patch can be submitted in this thread
We are releasing the Game Patch 3712 today, which contains but is not restricted to :
The ability to scale up the UI for players having a big screen.
An aesthetic change in the shader of seraphim unit.
The fix of the black plane bug for maps.
We added a support for custom map Props.
We fixed a bug with the rating reward when someone was leaving the game before it ended.
The patch notes can be found here or with some more explanations here.
Please post feedback in the forum.
See you Space Cowboy,
~The dev team.
PS : If you use the UI scaling, mods are likely to break. In order to fix this issue, modders need to update their mods: When setting UI elements, the position and dimensions have to be set using a correct function from layouthelpers.lua. This file contains all required functions to position the UI elements and it scales the position by the set global multiplier.
Example of changes that needs to be done: (1) control.Top:Set(parent.Bottom() + 20) to LayoutHelpers.AnchorToBottom(control, parent, 20)
(2) control.Width:Set(200) control.Height:Set(60) to LayoutHelpers.SetDimensions(control, 200, 60)
Last week we released our first nomads patch this year, featuring the T1 tank model! And this week we will be going through yet another turn in the t2 amphibious tank models development. Lastly, check out our development streams.
As usual, this content is taken from our discord server, so if you want to get the exclusive info before everyone else, chat to the devs, ask questions or even contribute, you can do that, right here:
If you have been keeping up with the development diaries, you may notice that this is definitely not the first time we are visting this unit. And its likely not the last time either. This started with a miscommunication between the developers, where we accidentally ended up with a design for a hover tank, which you can see below.
When we needed one that would go along the seabed so the result of that was a quickly thrown together design that in hindisght was not the most inspired being a little bit too simple. Marlo had a good go at it, but since the idea wasnt that great the model was pretty hard for him to get right. We parked it for a while at this stage to see what might come up later. You can see both the sketch and his models with some markups below.
And in the end something did come up. Its the image right at the top of this post! The above model was actually just a random marlo model. He seems to be good at those, with his models bringing new ideas to the table quite a lot recently, which is all in all rather great. And now we are planning to appropriate the model into the new t2 hover tank. Being an amphibious unit, it needs to be distinctive in its apparent function, which might be a bit of a challenge. Its pop-up elements should help with that.
You can see just how much has changed, but perhaps also a couple of similarities. Is this the last time we will be visiting this unit? Not likely. We will be sure to keep you updated. But so far this does seem to be one of the more convoluted development cycles for our units. Shows just how much time goes into each unit, and the kinds of adventures we go on during their development.
And thats it for now! If you want to see top secret stuff, join the discord server where you can chat to the devs, ask questions, spy on the process and get all the exclusive goodies and more! Also feel free to leave feedback either on the forum thread or in the discord. Remember, feedback is very important!
Lastly, we are always looking for more contributors, so if you are interested in creating things, whether thats code, 2d art, models, music or anything else, do get in touch! We also provide all the resources and guidance needed, so don’t worry if you think you are missing any skills, we will be glad to see you!
